LAKE FOREST — One year after relinquishing the North Suburban Conference championship, Lake Forest reclaimed its trophy.
The Scouts won the NSC girls tennis meet Saturday, defeating Stevenson — the champion a year ago — in all flight title matches. Lake Forest finished with 38 points to Stevenson’s 29. Libertyville took home third place with 22.5 points.
“It turned out really well,” Lake Forest coach Denise Murphy said. “We’re very happy. The girls worked very hard.”
It was almost a clean flight sweep for Lake Forest, as the Scouts won titles in No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Elizabeth Zordani was dominate at No. 1 singles, dropping just eight games in three matches. In the finals, the top-seeded Zordani defeated Mundelein’s Ariel Dechter in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Catherine Orfanos was even more dominate as she did not drop a game over the tournament’s three days. She swept Warren’s Max Mella in the finals, 6-0, 6-0.
Stevenson’s top doubles team of Kaylin Dong and Alexxis Kiven defeated Lake Forest’s Christina Zordani and Taya Zoubareva 6-2, 7-5 to take home the crown in the No. 1 doubles flight. The Scouts’ Victoria Falk and Colleen Morris won the No. 2 doubles title 6-3, 6-2 over Stevenson’s Michelle Tulchinskaya and Caroline Kelmis. At No. 3 doubles, Lake Forest’s Emily Kuchman and Margaux Miller defeated Stevenson’s Elizabeth Ettleson and Gwendolyn Heidkamp 6-2, 6-3.
Rounding out the top-five team scores, Warren finished in fourth place (18 points), and Lake Zurich was fifth (17.5).
The tournament was the final significant tune up for all of the area teams before sectional matches on Oct. 13.
