Men’s Basketball: Lake Forest College jumps back into first place

The Lake Forest College men’s basketball team jumped back into sole possession of first place in the Midwest Conference standings by posting 66-58 overtime victory at Lawrence University Friday night and a 69-57 triumph at Carroll University on Saturday.

Travis Clark led the visitors with 24 points, nine rebounds, and six assists on Friday. Nate Bateman recorded a double-double with a dozen points and 11 boards on Saturday.

Lake Forest College (18-2, 14-1 MWC) will look to set a new single-season program record for victories on the road against Monmouth College at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s basketball

Lake Forest College started the month of February with a 79-37 rout of host Lawrence University on Friday and a 71-68 overtime win at Carroll University on Saturday.

Danielle Canulli scored 33 points combined, including 15 points on free throws. Liz Radtke recorded her first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday.

The Foresters (10-9, 9-6 MWC) will go on the road in an attempt to even their season series with Monmouth College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s hockey

The Foresters scored just three goals in two games, but still earned three points in the league standings by tying visiting College of St. Scholastica 2-2 Saturday night and winning 1-0 on Sunday.

Goaltender Stacey Dierking stopped 50 of 52 shots on goal combined. Jessica Dare scored one of the team’s three goals and assisted on the other two.

Lake Forest College (12-6-2, 11-4-1 NCHA) remained in third place in the league standings and will host Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 2 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday.

Men’s hockey

Lake Forest College was outscored 3-0 in the final period — twice — and fell 4-1 and 5-3 to visiting Adrian College, the nation’s 10th-ranked team, in back-to-back battles.

Bobby Barrett netted his first collegiate goal on Friday; Saturday’s goals were scored by Anthony Martinez, Ben Finney and Luke Swardenski.

The Foresters will play a home-and-home series with Milwaukee School of Engineering. The teams will face off in Lake Forest at 7 p.m. Friday and in Milwaukee at the same time on Saturday.

Swimming

The Foresters women’s team defeated visiting Illinois Institute of Technology 121-31, and the LFC men’s team won 138-91 on Saturday.

Amy Finn, Zach Wenner, Becky Shaak and Meghan Mason each won a pair of events for the women’s squad. Divers Christina Pekar and Samantha Gardner posted NCAA Division III National Meet-qualifying marks off the 1-meter board, and Pekar also won the 3-meter competition.

Lake Forest College will compete in the Midwest Conference Championships at Lawrence University Feb. 17-19.
