Maria Malin, born and raised in Chicago, was a big fan of the famed Erma Bombeck in her youth, and found Bombeck's satirical style one that she emulated as the features and satires editor of her high school newspaper.
Maria's lifelong love of writing took on its most serious tone after the accidental death of her eleven year-old son, Steven, in 2003.
