I had the privilege of serving as mayor of Lake Forest from 1999 to 2002. I also had the opportunity to work with Susan Garrett, who represented the Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Knollwood communities in both the Illinois House and Senate.
I was an early supporter of Susan’s, and while I took a few political hits, I never regretted my decision. I got to know Susan well and we worked together on several projects, including traffic on Highway 41 and the widening of the bridge across the Tri-State freeway on Highway 60.
Susan was smart, hard-working, available and focused on issues that impacted our area and citizens. Susan’s interests and influence broadened with her service and she became one of the most trusted and respected members of the Illinois House and Senate.
Susan Garrett is a person who made a difference and I wish her well as she leaves political life with a proud record of service to her many constituents.
