Veterans honored
Plans are underway for Lake Forest Country Day School’s annual Veterans Day assembly, scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Nov. 7. The LFCDS community will celebrate and commemorate the sacrifices made by the local veterans of our Armed Forces. Lower and Upper School students will pay tribute in song and in words, and will have the chance to meet and speak with veterans after the assembly.
Robotics competition
The entire LFCDS Atrium was filled Oct. 17 with students, faculty and staff to watch seven seventh-grade Robotics teams compete for the chance to head to the Illinois First LEGO League Regional competition.
Students in Thesenga’s, Arthur’s and Crofts’ science classes worked in teams to program and build robots that could complete a series of tasks. Each year, the LEGO League announces a new challenge, and this year’s challenge, Senior Solutions, seeks to help senior citizens stay independent, engaged and connected.
The LFCDS teams were required to find a senior citizen partner and in speaking with him or her, identify the various challenges senior citizen face then work to create innovative solutions to the identified problems by designing and programming their robots to complete those tasks, such as recovering from injuries, keeping up with new technology and staying fit.
The final results are still being tallied, with the best three teams advancing to the Regional competition at Zion Middle School in mid-December.
