All-school handshake set for Aug. 27

Lake Forest Academy’ annual All-school handshake will take place in the formal gardens on Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. A yearly tradition, the All-school handshake is the LFA way to start the year off right. Each member of the community shakes every other member of the community’s hand and wishes them a fantastic start to the year.

Science Center breaks ground

LFA breaks ground on new Science Center! Lake Forest Academy broke ground on a brand-new Science Center June 1. The new LEED-certified facility, due to open for the 2013-14 Academic year, will include seven lab-classrooms, state-of-the-art equipment, innovative and flexible furnishings, research and conference areas, as well as ample, flexible spaces including a full basement. The new space will promote student creativity and discovery, support experiments and independent research projects, encourage inter-disciplinary collaboration, and accommodate future course offerings.

Upper Korhumel, our History wing, was given a major facelift over the summer. Dollars from the annual spring Gala held April 28 allowed for renovations to be made to the academic space for immediate use this school year. New windows were installed to allow for more natural light. New innovative furnishings will foster great greater flexibility and collaboration in the classroom as well as new presentation technologies. This project is a part of a greater initiative to renovate and repurpose existing space in the Corbin Academic Center.

Auditions for fall play to be held Aug. 29-30

Auditions for the fall play, “The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later” will be held Aug. 29 and Aug. 30. The play is about the aftermath of the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student in Laramie, Wyoming. The original authors returned to Laramie ten years after Matthew Shepard’ s death to understand the long-term effect of the murder and found a town wrestling with its legacy and its place in history. The show will be performed Oct. 12 and 13 during Parents Weekend. The show is free and open to the public.~
