Fashion designer and “Project Runway” star Peach Carr may have grown up in Winfield (and she was born in Chicago), but she loves Lake Forest. It’s been her home for 18 years -- before her TV fame began -- and she talks as enthusiastically about her town as she does fashion.
Q. What do you love about Lake Forest?
A. Lake Forest is such a beautiful and friendly town, kind of like Mayberry with bigger houses. You have people of means here, but they are raising their children to be philanthropic. I love how you can drive down the street and see women wearing Manolo Blahniks or rubber Wellingtons.
Q. Your life has been pretty hectic, with fashion shows slated for this fall in Providence, R.I., as well as Chicago, managing your design business and now a new blogging gig with “Project Runway.” What do you do to relieve yourself from stress?
A. I am on my way to buy bike shoes ... for spinning class. I take classes at Joyride Cycle Studio in Highwood. It’s a great way to unwind.
Q. What is your favorite hangout spot in Lake Forest, to relax and to be a bit lazier than doing a spinning class?
A. I love Market Square [Lake Forest’s downtown shopping district]. It has a beautiful fountain, great shops, very quaint. I just like to grab coffee with girlfriends and sit on the benches and watch life go by. Or I go to the beach. We have a beautiful beach.
Q. What are your favorite spots to grab a bite to eat?
A. Francesca’s Intimo. It’s fabulous. Anytime I got good news from “Project Runway” I was on my way to Francesca’s. When I got the call I was going to be on the show, I was pulling shoes out of my closet to go to dinner with my friends at Francesca’s. We go there and we go to Del Rio in Highwood.
Q. What is your go-to piece in your personal wardrobe?
A. My most favorite piece of clothing came from Three Sisters, the boutique in Lake Forest. It’s a Diane von Furstenberg skirt. Anytime I wear it I get comments. I can wear it with a black T-shirt or a black cashmere sweater. It’s a go-to staple.
