LAKE FOREST — Bruce Berlin has been appointed executive director of Presbyterian Homes, a continuing care retirement community in Lake Forest. Berlin has a background in hotel management and more than 15 years experience in leading high quality retirement communities in Chicago’s north and northwest suburbs, Presbyterian Homes said in a press release.

He has particular expertise in employee relations and operations management.

Prior to joining Presbyterian Homes, Berlin was the executive director at The Garlands of Barrington in Barrington.

Berlin began his career in hotel management with Embassy Suites Hotels in 1985 where he held management positions in multiple U.S. locations until 1992. In 1992, Berlin was a member of the Executive Committee at Stein Eriksen Lodge, a 5-star luxury resort hotel in Park City, Utah.

Berlin’s experience in hotel management led to his becoming executive director at Hawthorn Lakes, an independent and assisted living community in Vernon Hills, from 1994 through 1999. He then became executive director at Lincolnwood Place, a CCRC in Lincolnwood, and remained there until joining The Garlands in 2001.

A native of southern California, Berlin has bachelor of science in business management from the University of Santa Clara and a bachelor of science in hotel management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is a member of the National Speakers’ Association. He and his wife live in Wauconda with four of their five children. They have one son in the U.S. Air Force.~.
