BMW championship may move to LF’s Conway Farms
The Western Golf Association’s vice president of tournaments, Vince Pellegrino, would neither confirm nor deny a report last week that the 2013 BMW Championship will be awarded to Lake Forest’s Conway Farms.
But it certainly seems that way.
“There’s no contract signed,” Todd Marsh, Conway Farms’ general manager, said Feb. 9. “We’re still working out some of the details.”
According to Pellegrino, an announcement of the 2013 site would come, “within the next three or four weeks.”
It appears Lemont’s Cog Hill is out of the picture.
“I can’t confirm that,” Pellegrino said. “Cog Hill was certainly one of the courses definitely in consideration for the event.”
Cog Hill has been Chicago’s home to the event, and to the Western Open from which it sprang, since 1991.
Artist-in-residence exhibit at LFC
Two new installations by Lake Forest College artist-in-residence Wafaa Bilal debut at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the Sonnenschein Gallery located on the third floor of Durand Art Institute on North Campus, 555 North Sheridan Road.
The exhibits are inspired by Bilal’s brother’s death in 2004 by a Predator drone attack in Iraq. The first installation, “The Comfort Zone,” will bring viewers in front of the lens in a confrontation between perceived violence and a visceral reaction to it; the second, “The American,” addresses the lengths society will take to disengage from the violence of war.
Admission is free. Call 847-735-5194 for details.

LFHS campaign gets major boost
Lake Forest Bank & Trust will become a major contributor to the Lake Forest High School Booster’s Diamond Anniversary Campaign – a special capital campaign fund for a new multi-purpose sports complex at historic Lindenmeyer Field.
The bank will participate in the Boosters’ Community Partnership Program as one of the program’s exclusive Varsity Gold Partners, under a multi-year agreement.
The proposed sports complex includes two state-of-the-art synthetic turf fields and a new track and field facility for the entire community. The new facility will be the primary venue for certain LFHS sports – including boys and girls track & field, girls’ lacrosse and field hockey – and will supplement the athletic fields at LFHS’s west campus for other sports.
“We are excited to have Lake Forest Bank & Trust as a major contributor to the Diamond Anniversary Campaign and as the Boosters’ latest Varsity Gold Partner,” said Brian Vandenberg, co-chair of the campaign and spokesman for the LFHS Boosters.
“The Diamond Anniversary Campaign is a remarkable, community-initiated project that has been met with great enthusiasm,” said David Lee, president of Lake Forest Bank & Trust. “As Lake Forest’s hometown bank – locally controlled and managed – we, too, want to participate and support the Campaign to help ensure its success.”
Ground-breaking for the new facility is expected this spring with completion anticipated in time for the 2012-13 school year.
