St. Mary students help needy
Under the direction of parent volunteer coordinator Julie Hermsen, School of St. Mary Upper Grade Center students are volunteering one morning a month before classes to prepare sack lunches for either the PADS shelter in North Chicago or the Veterans’ Administration Shelter, also in North Chicago.
Students work in assembly-line fashion as they prepare the meal. The lunches are delivered by parent volunteers the same day they are made. The lunch usually consists of a sandwich, chips, beverage, fruit, dessert and cheese.
