Dramatization to honor Audubon milestone
The Lake County Audubon Society and the Lake/Cook Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society will co-sponsor a dramatization by well-known performer, author, and educator, Brian “Fox” Ellis in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the visit to Illinois of the famous naturalist and wildlife artist, John James Audubon. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the College of Lake County in Grayslake.
The dramatization will include tales of Audubon’s adventures in Illinois: the stories of birds he painted, his encounters with the Indians, and his epic walk across our state in the spring of 1811. Based on direct quotations from the artist’s journals, essays, letters, and three short stories about his time in Illinois, it features storytelling with images of Audubon’s art.
The family-friendly performance is free and open to the public. The program will be held at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Building C, Room C005. Seats will be available at 6:30 p.m, and parking will be available in Parking Lots 4, 5, and 6. To register, RSVP audbirds@aol.com.
Health program to focus on women’s tobacco use
The Lake County Health Department’s Tobacco Free Lake County program invites healthcare providers to the “Effects of Tobacco Use Throughout a Woman’s Lifetime.” This free healthcare provider training will be held on Feb. 9, from 6 to 8:15 p.m., at the White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills.
Dr. Eve C. Feinberg, board-certified in both obstetrics and gynecology as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility, will cover the relationship between tobacco use and women’s health, from adolescence through adulthood, including sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, infertility, cervical cancer, heart disease and menopause. Participants will also gain knowledge and tools to assist their patients in tobacco treatment.
Dinner and continuing medical education credits will be provided. The training is free but pre-registration is required. Participants may register by calling Tobacco Free Lake County at (847) 377-8090 by Feb. 3.
