Three hundred guests attended the President’s Ball, a gala to generate financial support for Harper College student scholarships and programs, Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center in Schaumburg.

Festivities, hosted by Harper’s Educational Foundation, began with a 6 p.m. cocktail reception that was followed by dinner and dancing.

Nearly $300,000 was raised through sponsorships, ticket sales, raffle ticket sales, a silent auction, donations and a live appeal for scholarship support. All proceeds/funds raised will be used to support Harper College student scholarships and programming.

Harper President Dr. Kenneth Ender of Inverness and student Elisa Galvan, the recipient of one of the college’s most prestigious scholarships, spoke to guests. Galvan, a future teacher, says winning the Motorola Solutions Foundation Award for Excellence helped fund her classes and empowered her to study education.

Harper Professor Jeff Przybylo, who coaches the college’s Speech and Debate Team, emceed the evening, which also served as the introductory event for newly appointed Chief Advancement Officer Dr. Mary Knight.

Lane Moyer of Deer Park, immediate past president of the Harper College Foundation Board of Directors, co-chaired the gala planning committee alongside Foundation board member Derrick Hamilton, Vice President of U-Verse Field Operations-Midwest for AT&T.

Since its inception in 1973, Harper’s Educational Foundation has supported the College, its students and its faculty and staff through scholarships, programs and other contributions. More than 300 Harper students were awarded scholarships through the Foundation last year.
