A gal can not depend on black alone.
Though I do try, waving off comparisons to Queen Victoria or a theater stagehand.
So with this season’s explosion of color and prints, what’s a modern-day Morticia to do?
Start by jumping off the deep end and hitting J. Crew for the it color of the season — tangerine tango. In a cropped pant.
Then, head to the Artwear Unlimited Show at the Highland Park Country Club April 25-27 to add those “pops” of color all those trendsetters are preaching.
Show co-founder, producer and lover of all intricate wearable fibers, Kathy Sackheim of Highland Park is a woman after my own heart.
She’s a collector of clothing, but she elevates her wardrobe — her pieces are actual art.
“I am always dressed in black,” she said. “I’m a classic dresser, with a twist. And these pieces are timeless — art to wear for the individual.”
Sackheim, with business partner Linda Brodson, travels the United States to curate two shows a season.
And Sackheim overlooked my tardiness to our interview by pulling out jacket after jacket — each a beautiful take on various art forms and current trends.
Since safari is a huge trend this season, Sackheim was quick to point out her find from a previous show. But my favorite was by Amy Nguyen, who created a long lavender textured vest with a nod to fashion designer Tadashi Shoji.
But don’t expect to find the same artists each time — art may not strike twice.
“We don’t have repeats,” Sackheim said. “We always have different merchandise. And it’s spring, so we have more color.”
