Halloween 2012: Eeeks and treats

Mummies, monsters and edible toes?
It’s time for our yearly round-up of grisly treats and tasty eeeks for your little boys and ghouls.
Mummy Dogs
There’s nothing scary about these tasty dogs wrapped in light buttery dough.
You need:
Hot dogs
Frozen pie dough or crescent rolls
1-2 eggs (beaten)
Mustard
Edible eyeballs (optional)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Unroll dough and slice into long strips. Wrap dogs with dough strips as if they were real mummies. To give your mummies a golden glow, lightly brush egg wash over dough.
Bake in oven for about 10 minutes or until brown.
When cooled, add two drops of mustard for eyes or make your mummies extra eerie by adding edible eyeballs.
Swamp Juice
This beverage is two-parts refreshing and one-part gross, making it the perfect drink for any Halloween festivity.
You need:
Sparkling water
Fresh cut lemon slices
Fresh mint leaves
Gummy worms and Swedish fish
Directions:
In a glass or jar, place a few worms and a fish or two. Add several sprigs of fresh mint and a slice of fresh lemon. Add sparkling water.
Let juice steep in refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
Frankenstein in a Cup
Boris Karloff they’re not, but chances are your kids will love creating these wiggly, jiggly monsters.
You need:
Colored adhesive foam (for eyes and scars)
3-ounce box of lime gelatin (makes 2 monsters)
Clear plastic cups
Grapes (cut in half)
Double-sided tape
Rolo candies (neck bolts)
Crushed chocolate graham crackers (hair)
Directions:
Prepare the gelatin according to package directions. Pour slightly cooled gelatin into each cup, stopping 1/2 inch from top.
Refrigerate until gelatin is partially gelled, then remove cup from the refrigerator. Use a spoon to gently place eyes (1/2 grape) into gelatin. Refrigerate until set. Use tape to attach the neck bolts. Add scars and mouths with adhesive foam. Add hair by covering the top with crushed chocolate graham crackers.

Evil Fingers
The only thing worse than nail biting? Snacking on evil fingers.
You need:
Mozzarella cheese sticks
Cream cheese
Red pepper
Parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions:
Parents, use a knife to carve a shallow well at the top of each cheese stick.
Make nail and knuckle joints by carving tiny, horizontal lines in the cheese.
Make the knuckles a little “hairy” by adding a small dab of cream cheese and some Parmesan cheese.
For the fingernails, slice pepper into fingernail shaped strips, which you can then “glue” with cream cheese.

Goblin Toes
Sweeter than a pedicure, these tasty toes are the perfect end to any meal.
You need:
Golden Grahams Cereal
Cocoa Puffs Cereal
Nutter Butter cookies
Green candy melts
Wax paper
Clean paintbrushes
Directions:
Heat green candy melts in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. Cover cookies with melted green candy and set on wax paper.
Place one cocoa puff “wart” on each cookie.
Place one Golden Grahams “toenail” on the end of each cookie.
Allow cookies to set before eating.
