Abbott plans to lay off 700 workers

Abbott Laboratories announced plans Wednesday to lay off 700 employees, most of them in the Chicago area. The medical device and drugmaker, which is based in North Chicago, blamed the layoffs on an expected decline in orders for heart stents, The Associated Press reported.
