Vandals cause $50K in damage at Lake Forest’s Winter Club

Lake Forest police are looking for anyone with information about overnight vandalism that closed the Winter Club Friday, Aug. 1, and resulted in more than $50,000 in damage.

Windows and doors were broken, sinks intentionally flooded and numerous items broken or destroyed sometime between 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, and 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, police said.

The perpetrators also threw broken glass, chairs and other items into the club’s pool, according to Lake Forest Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf said.

“Offices and the cafe were ransacked and the pool was also targeted with lifeguard chairs and other outdoor equipment,” Club President Jennifer Mower said in an email to members.

A board-up service was on the scene Friday afternoon and professional cleaning crews were expected “to do the heavy clean up that is needed to insure that the Club is safe,” Mower said.

Police officers and evidence technicians responded to the club, located at 956 North Sheridan Road, at 7:08 a.m. Friday and were on the scene for several hours.

Police ask anyone who was in the area overnight or who lives or works in the vicinity of the club to contact Detective Mark Senger at SengerM@cityoflakeforest.com.

The Winter Club’s programming has provided athletic and recreational activities for its member families since 1903, according to the club website.

Mower did not immediately return a voicemail left at the club Friday morning.
