23 attorneys apply for Lake County judge opening

A total of 23 attorneys have filed applications for a Lake County Circuit Court associate judge opening created by the retirement of Joseph Waldeck.

The applicants are scheduled to interview with circuit court judges over the next several weeks, and be evaluated by members of the Lake County Bar Association’s Judicial Selection and Retention Committee prior to an election by local circuit court judges.

The Bar Association will also conduct a poll of its membership on candidates’ qualifications. The public also has an opportunity to comment on applicants.

Accepted until July 28, comments should be submitted by letter and mailed to Office of the Chief Judge, Lake County Courthouse, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, IL 60085.

After the review process, a nominating committee of circuit judges will select two candidates to be placed on a ballot. All circuit judges will then receive individual ballots to be submitted to court administrative officials in Springfield, where the results will be tallied and given to Chief Judge John Phillips.

Sole practitioner applicants include Nandia P. Black of Kildeer; Rhonda K. Bruno of Mundelein; Michael J. Conway of Lake Villa; David A. DeRose of Lake Villa; Christopher M. Kennedy of Libertyville; Jerald Novak of Long Grove; Paul B. Novak of Gurnee; and Ross J. Peters of Deerfield.

Other applicants include Hugo M. Chaviano of North Barrington, partner in the firm of Sanchez, Daniels & Hoffman, LLP; Walter Diambri of Libertyville, partner in the firm of Diambri & Vicari, P.C.; Joann M. Fratianni-Atsaves of Lake Forest, arbitrator and former commissioner of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission; Laura D. Horner of Lindenhurst, partner in the firm of Fox, Lunardi, Zeit & Polenzani; Pamela J. Kuzniar of Deerfield, partner in the firm of Kuzniar & Simons, P.C.; Carlton R. Marcyan of Lake Forest, partner in the firm of Schiller, DuCanto & Fleck, LLP; L. Steven Platt of Buffalo Grove, partner in the firm of Clark Hill, PLC; Stacey L. Seneczko of Libertyville, partner in the firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson, LLP; Alan J. Spellberg of Highland Park, supervisor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office; and Miles J. Zaremski of Highland Park, partner in the Zaremski Law Group.

Five Lake County assistant state’s attorneys also applied, including Janelle K. Christensen of Lindenhurst, Irene H.Curran of Libertyville, Stephen M. DeRue of Antioch, Ari P. Fisz of Deerfield and Daniel L. Jasica of Lake Forest.
