After 25 years in Lake Forest — where she raised four children — Carla Westcott opened Market House restaurant in 2012 in one of her favorite parts of town. The following year, she opened another high-end establishment nearby, The Fish House (670 Bank; Mhfishhouse.com). Her friendly and welcoming disposition make her the darling of Market Square, but for Westcott, it’s the people that make the city feel like home. “It’s a very connected place, where people always help each other,” she says. Here are a few more of her favorite things.

“Sweet’s has been our family’s favorite place for ice cream for the past 24 years. When each of my children was able to ride their bike down the street, we immediately went right to Sweet’s to celebrate. Susan [Dick], the owner, makes everyone feel special. My kids’ favorite ice cream is Elephant Tracks, and whenever I give candy as a gift, I always go to Sweet’s for their English Toffee.”
