The City Council approved a temporary lift on a parking ban near the lakefront in East Lake Forest to accommodate overflow days at the Forest Park beach and boat basin.
Due to improvements under way on the Forest Park bluff, the park’s upper south parking lot is closed resulting in a loss of 20 parking spaces this summer and fall.
To mitigate parking challenges on overflow days, beach-goers will be allowed to park in designated areas on the Lake Forest College Campus and along the south side of Deerpath between Sheridan and Washington roads. Parking must be filled at the lower north and lower south parking lots at the beach and boat basin before city staff activates the overflow parking option, officials said.
Temporary signage will be used and beach parking staff will be placed at the overflow parking areas to monitor and communicate between the parking lots. Neighbors adjacent to these parking areas will be notified following the unanimous approval by the City Council Monday.
