With all 56 Lake County precincts reporting and six of seven Cook County precincts in, Democrat Carol Sente has won the race to represent the 59th District in the Illinois House of Representatives.
Sente received 19,332 votes, or roughly 55 percent in Lake County, compared to Republican candidate Sidney Mathias, who received 15,617, or nearly 45 percent. In Cook County, Sente received 1,979 votes, or almost 63 percent, while Mathias received 1,117 votes, or just over 36 percent.
The Lake County tallies include early votes and vote by mail ballots. Provisional votes have yet to be counted.
It is unclear if any early votes or mail-in ballots have been counted in Cook County.
The district, recently redrawn, hosted a unique election contest as Sente and Mathias were both incumbents.
The 59th district contains portions of Buffalo Grove, Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mundelein, North Chicago, Northbrook, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan and Wheeling.
