LAKE BLUFF – Ilene Disch has worked in varying careers – from financial planner to tanning salon owner – and now is doing what she truly loves, offering manicures and pedicures at Digitz A Nail Experience in Lake Bluff.
The intimate salon, located across the street from the Lake Bluff train station, features parking in the rear and a dialed-down experience that feels like home.
That’s just the mood Disch wanted for her clientele.
“I’m trying to be more comfortable and a nice place for people to hang out and talk to friends while getting their nails done,” said Disch, a Grayslake resident.
Oil paintings of dancers and flowers in bright colors pop off the understated gray walls. Patterned scatter rugs from Pakistan add to ambiance in the salon, which opened in August. The 600-square-foot space features four manicure stations with UV light chip-free service available and two Footsie Bath Pedicure Spas. Disch discovered the foot spas on TV Guide Network’s “Nail Files” reality show, set in Hollywood, and thought it would be a good option for her salon.
“People really like that they have disposable liners,” which assures them the footwork remains bacteria-free, Disch said.
Digitz caters to men, women and children and can accommodate individuals, small groups and parties.
Nearly a dozen 6-year-olds met at Digitz recently for a birthday bash, where young guests had their nails done and hair braided.
“It was a lot of fun,” Disch said.
Disch also offers spa parties in her shop or in a home, and she’ll accommodate entire bridal parties for pre-wedding nail work.
“Doing nails is not really work for me,” she said. “It’s fun, and I enjoy talking to the people.”
